What is Really Happening in Tavush: 'Aravot'
The newspaper 'Aravot' reports: The situation remains tense in the border villages of Tavush marz. Although the Ministry of Defense denies reports that Russian peacekeepers and Azerbaijanis are conducting demarcations along the border in Tavush villages, this has not alleviated the worries of the locals.
The issue is that the governor of Tavush, Hayk Chobanyan, stated that the border of Armenia is fully protected by the armed forces and border residents, just as it was in the past. But what constitutes the border of Armenia, according to the governor affiliated with Pashinyan, may well be a question for inquiries.
Local residents are uneasy that the issue of handing over enclaves will be laid on the table, and officials will present arguments claiming that those areas were never part of the Republic of Armenia, citing various maps.
Moreover, there are even whispers in the region that a meeting has occurred behind the Russian peacekeepers' backs with the Turkish side and that certain agreements have been reached, though it is difficult to determine how true this is.
In any case, until now, there is no concrete evidence regarding these claims. Currently, the one thing that is certain is that there are Russian military personnel in the border villages of Tavush—though the exact purpose of their presence remains unknown. The only reassuring aspect is that there have been no positional changes in that area so far.
