In the ongoing Judo Grand Slam tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Armenia's sole representative, Ferdinand Karapetyan, had an outstanding start today.
The athlete, competing in the 73 kg weight category, achieved three consecutive victories in the qualification rounds, securing a place in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, he eliminated the two-time world champion, Azerbaijani Rustam Orujov.
Unfortunately, in the semifinal match, Ferdinand Karapetyan lost in a tightly contested bout against Kazakhstan's Zhansai Smagulov. This evening, he will compete for the bronze medal against French judoka Guillaume Chaine.
