Macron Evaluates the Use of Russian 'Sputnik V' Vaccine in France

French President Emmanuel Macron has evaluated the potential use of the Russian 'Sputnik V' vaccine in France, according to TASS. "A few weeks ago, I decided to send a scientific delegation to Russia for consultations. Those consultations were positive. Today we see publications that present the high effectiveness of the 'Sputnik V' vaccine," he stated in an interview with the LCI television channel.

At the same time, the French president emphasized that any vaccine's use in France requires prior approval from the European Union and French medical regulators. "This is not a political issue; it is a scientific one," assured the French president.

Macron also promised that all French citizens would be able to get vaccinated against coronavirus by the end of summer. Previously, it was reported that France's highest health committee has approved the use of the coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca. Vaccines produced by Moderna, Pfizer, and BIONTECH are also permitted in the country.

Just yesterday, The Lancet published the results of the third phase of clinical research on the Russian 'Sputnik V' vaccine, which indicated that it is safe and effective. The vaccine's effectiveness stands at 91.6 percent.
