Even Ararat Mirzoyan Did Not Attend the Meeting
Yesterday, an unprecedentedly low number of deputies attended the urgent meeting of the "My Step" faction. They were invited to discuss Vahagn Hovakimyan's proposal regarding the self-dissolution of the parliament without the resignation of the Prime Minister. However, prior constitutional amendments are required.
Even Ararat Mirzoyan did not participate in the meeting. The boycott by the deputies has been perceived by the supporters of Pashinyan as a reaction to the idea of self-dissolution. The issue was briefly discussed, with opinions expressed that first, an agreement should be reached with the opposition regarding early elections before considering the dissolution of the National Assembly. If the political forces boycott the early elections, the crisis will deepen further.
The "My Step" faction has smoothly transitioned to discussing changes in the Electoral Code and the Law on Political Parties. Sources inform us that there are significant shifts in the sentiments among the members of the faction. Previously, most believed that abandoning the majoritarian electoral system was essential; today, they think that it does not serve their interests as much—Pashinyan no longer has the authority to carry 88 people in the parliament on his shoulders, and different criteria may come into play when forming the electoral list.
Consequently, there is a proposal within "My Step" to legally establish the procedure for forming electoral lists for all parties. This is to ensure that lists are not formed solely by the whims of one person but at least through the party's governing body, with the involvement of intra-party primaries and voting. This way, it would not be unjust for someone to appear at the front of the list, and everyone would be fairly prepared for the elections.
