What Happened During the Nikol Pashinyan-Armen Sarkissian Meeting
On December 24 of last year, a statement was released indicating that Nikol Pashinyan met with President Armen Sarkissian. This news raised eyebrows, as just a month earlier, Sarkissian had stated that he demanded the resignation of the government and the Prime Minister.
We learned that the Pashinyan-Sarkissian meeting did not proceed in a particularly amicable atmosphere. According to our sources, it was Pashinyan who initiated the meeting, asking the president to discuss the current situation in the country.
It is noteworthy that in the past, the opposite situation existed; Pashinyan would boycott Sarkissian, not inviting him to National Security Council meetings and rarely offering him hospitality.
This meeting took place in a neutral zone, meaning Sarkissian did not host Pashinyan at the presidential residence, nor did the latter go to the government. The meeting was relatively short, lasting about 30 minutes, and concluded with tea, as the president declined Pashinyan's invitation for dinner.
In terms of content, there was no serious discussion. According to our source, the president reiterated that the only exit is Pashinyan's resignation and the formation of a new temporary government of national consensus. This was reported by the Hraparak newspaper.
