Armenian President Calls for Urgent Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has issued a statement addressing the situation in the Hadrut region of Artsakh, according to the President's press office.
“On December 12 of this year, the armed forces of Azerbaijan, violating the ceasefire declared on November 9, have captured the village of Hin Tagher in the Hadrut region of Artsakh and advanced towards the area of the village of Khztaberd in the same region. The respective authorities of the RA government have so far not adequately presented the situation and the actions taken by the Armenian side.
Considering the situation, the President of the Republic is calling on the RA Minister of Defense and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to urgently present to the public the situation that has arisen in Artsakh, as well as the actions taken by the Armenian side to protect the mentioned settlements and to ensure effective compliance with the ceasefire.
At the same time, the President of the Republic is urging the RA National Assembly to urgently convene an extraordinary session to discuss the causes of the situation that has arisen in the Hadrut region and the pathways to its resolution.
Highlighting the importance of the ceasefire achieved on November 9 through the mediation of the President of Russia and its maintenance, the President of the Republic also reminds that according to the decision made by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Armenia on July 8, 1992, Armenia is obliged to consistently support the Republic of Artsakh and the protection of the rights of its population,” the statement reads.
