System of a Down Raises One Million Dollars for Artsakh Through New Songs
The lead vocalist of System of a Down, the renowned American-Armenian rock musician Serj Tankian, has announced that the band has raised nearly one million dollars to aid Armenia and Artsakh through their two new songs. This was reported by iheart.com, citing an interview Serj Tankian gave to California's NBC, where the Armenian musician emphasized that the band's new songs are not related to their reunion.
“We decided to do this so we can conduct interviews about the injustices and humanitarian disasters being inflicted by Azerbaijan and Turkey on the people of Artsakh, as well as to collect necessary humanitarian aid. So, it's not about our musical career, the band, or us,” he stated.
Tankian also mentioned that they will be conducting additional auctions in the near future to support Artsakh and Armenia. “In the coming weeks, we will also have several fundraising events and auctions within a month to try to raise much more,” he added.
The rock musician emphasized that music provides great opportunities in various ways, but he particularly values its ability to raise awareness for justice. “Music offers a number of wonderful opportunities to entertain people, convey positive feelings, but I particularly focus on the side of music that drives me to challenge and raise awareness for justice. I appreciate artists who take a similar approach. Most of System of a Down's work reflects that, and I believe our fans appreciate this principle of ours,” said the lead vocalist of System of a Down.
It is noteworthy that the world-famous rock group System of a Down released two new songs after a 15-year hiatus, titled “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz,” in an effort to support Artsakh.
