French Police Raid Islamist Extremists' Homes
Following the beheading of a French teacher, the country's police have raided dozens of homes belonging to Islamist extremists suspected of aiding in the murder of Samuel Paty, Reuters reports.
The government has announced it is investigating 51 Muslim organizations operating in France. More than 80 investigations have been launched against individuals related to the "distribution of hatred online," with arrests ongoing, according to French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
It is not ruled out that the investigated Muslim organizations that spread hatred may be shut down.
The French president has classified the teacher's murder as terrorism, and law enforcement agencies have arrested 11 people during the counter-terrorism operation. Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's far-right National Rally party, has called for a military response to Islamist actions, arguing they carry out executions in the country without trial or investigation.
