If the situation worsens, Russia and CSTO will fulfill their obligations to Armenia, says Prime Minister to Swiss RTS
The United States and France should support Russia's efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in an interview with Swiss RTS television.
“We are holding constant consultations with our Russian partners, including within the framework of the CSTO. It has already been clearly stated that if the situation worsens, Russia and the CSTO will fulfill their obligations to Armenia,” the Prime Minister noted when asked what Russia's role should be and whether Armenia would seek more support from Moscow.
RTS - A ceasefire has not been maintained, and civilian casualties are occurring on both sides. What compromises is Armenia prepared to make to stop the fighting? Nikol Pashinyan - The ceasefire has not only not been maintained, it has not even existed, because as soon as it was supposed to come into effect, Azerbaijan launched new attacks. When it comes to compromises, Armenia has always been ready to make them. But concessions must be made by both sides. Azerbaijan has never been ready for compromise. This is why the situation has developed this way.
Azerbaijan is less willing to do so today, particularly because Turkey is leading the process. For Turkey, this is not just about Nagorno-Karabakh. What is happening is a result of Turkish expansionist and imperialist policies. The Armenian population of the South Caucasus is the last obstacle to its westward and southeastward expansion.
In my opinion, it is very important to note that the situation has gone beyond the framework of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and has entered a much broader logic. The situation should be viewed in the context of Turkey's policies in the Southern Mediterranean, Libya, Syria, as well as its relations with Greece and Cyprus.
