Peskov on Navalny Poisoning: 'I Don't Think Anyone Would Benefit'

The Kremlin sees no reason to blame the Russian leadership for the incident involving Alexei Navalny. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the President of Russia, made this statement, as reported by INTERFAX.RU.

In response to a question about who might benefit from the poisoning of the opposition figure, Peskov noted that he cannot say. "I generally don't think anyone would benefit. If we simply look at what’s happening with a sober mind, I would speak cautiously about accusations directed at the Russian state. However, there are no accusations and no reason to blame anyone," he emphasized.

"We do not intend to accept any accusations in this regard," Peskov said, adding that the Kremlin sees no justification for imposing sanctions against Russia and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline because of this situation.

Recall that German doctors announced yesterday that Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a nerve agent from the Novichok group. It is known that Navalny remains in an artificial coma at the Charite hospital in Berlin, where he was transferred from the Omsk hospital on August 22.
