Rockfall on Railway Tracks
The South Caucasus Railway reports that on July 14, around 1:30 PM, a rock fragment weighing up to 12 tons fell onto the railway tracks in the Tumanyan-Sanahin section (2618 km) of the Lori region due to road construction works organized by the "Sharagayt" LLC.
This incident has previously occurred in the same area on June 10. In both cases, there have been incidents threatening the safety of traffic on the only operational segment of the Armenian railway's external communications.
The rockfall caused material damages to the railway. Recovery works conducted by the South Caucasus Railway took more than 8 hours, and train operations were restored around midnight. Damaged rails and joints were replaced. The company informed the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the regional leadership about the incident.
To promptly respond to possible collapses, the staff of the South Caucasus Railway is conducting round-the-clock duty in the affected area.
