People Are Already Satisfied: Protests in Yeghgnut Cease
The protests of the residents of the Yeghgnut community in the Armavir region have now ceased. This was stated today, July 15, in a conversation with NEWS.am by local resident Hovhannes Nersisyan.
The protests stopped after the temporary acting mayor Razmik Mkrtchyan's lawsuit submitted to the Administrative Court a week ago has been accepted for consideration. "Razmik Mkrtchyan has filed a lawsuit to annul the decision of the Armavir region governor Hambardzum Matevosyan, which stated that the former village mayor should be re-elected to his previous position. The date of the court hearing has already been set for August 31. This satisfied the people; we congratulated each other and stopped the protests," said the resident.
Governor Hambardzum Matevosyan stated in a conversation with NEWS.am that the situation in the community is currently calm. "There are numerous projects in Yeghgnut that need to be implemented, and this entire process hinders their realization. The situation is quite tense at the border, as well as regarding the pandemic, which is very dangerous. My appeal is as follows: let us accept the court's decision, implement the planned works, ensure that the community has a road, irrigation and drinking water, lighting, and in a year, let there be regular or extraordinary elections for the preferred candidate of the community to be elected as mayor. This is the only solution," the governor told the news outlet.
