«Joghvourd»: MPs Have Met Secretly with Garegin II

«Joghvourd» newspaper reports that several members of the National Assembly’s “My Step” faction, led by faction leader Lilit Makunts, held a meeting with the Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, a few days ago. According to our sources, the main topic of the meeting was the new educational guidelines published by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia. If adopted, the subject of Armenian Church history will no longer be taught separately but will be merged with the subject of Armenian history, which has also caused dissatisfaction.

Our information indicates that this new decision has created discontent, particularly among the clergy, who have voiced their concerns and have not hidden their intention to fight for the separate status of the subject of Armenian Church history. Thus, ‘Joghvourd’ newspaper has learned that this situation was the reason why several deputies, led by Makunts, were ‘dispatched’ to Garegin II to understand their sentiments and negotiate with them.

It is noteworthy that the ruling party's members are making every effort to conceal the details of their meeting with Garegin II and have not provided any comments.
