Shooting on Iran-Azerbaijan Border Results in One Death
The State Border Service of Azerbaijan issued a statement today, noting that on June 17 at approximately 21:40, three individuals attempted to illegally cross the Iran-Azerbaijan border near the village of Kyuryunj in the Jalilabad region.
According to regionmonitor, a shooting ensued between the border violators and Azerbaijani border guards. One of the violators was injured and drowned in the Bolgarchay River while attempting to flee back to Iran. His body was later recovered by Iranian border guards. The other two violators fled and were arrested on Iranian territory.
