Fraudulent Accusation Revealed in Robbery Investigation
The Shirak regional investigative department of the Armenian Investigative Committee has revealed a case of false accusations in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation into a robbery incident.
The resident of Gyumri, having been warned about the responsibility for false denunciation, has evidently made a false accusation and reported information that does not correspond to reality. She claimed that on April 8, 2020, between 08:15 and 08:30, while on her way to work, two masked individuals had stolen her gold ring and gold earrings.
As part of the investigation initiated under Part 2 of Article 176 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Armenia, it was discovered that in March 2020, the woman met a 28-year-old resident of Gyumri via the internet, and they developed a close relationship. During March and April 2020, the young man asked the local woman for money, and she transferred her gold necklace, chain, ring, and earrings to him.
The 28-year-old individual, through himself and his friend’s wives, pawned these jewelry items, promising to repay the amounts quickly and return the jewelry. Concerned that the young man would not return the pawned items in a timely manner, and fearing adverse consequences, the woman fabricated a false accusation.
She provided false testimonies regarding her suspicion of a resident in their neighborhood, whom she recognized during an investigative action. On April 28, 2020, a decision was made to discontinue criminal proceedings against her, to lift the restrictive measures imposed on her, and to terminate the proceedings due to the absence of a crime.
On May 18, 2020, a criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 333 (False Accusation) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. An investigation is underway.
Notification: A suspect or accused in a presumed crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a legally binding court verdict.
