EU Allocates 150 Million Euros to Georgia for COVID-19 Pandemic Response

The European Parliament has approved a macro-financial assistance package to allocate 150 million euros to Georgia to address the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. This was announced in a press release posted on the European Parliament's website.

At the end of April, the European Commission announced a package of assistance amounting to 3 billion euros for combating the coronavirus in 10 countries, including Georgia. A substantial portion of these funds will be directed to Ukraine, which will receive 1.2 billion euros, followed by Tunisia with 600 million euros, and Bosnia and Herzegovina with 250 million euros.

It has been reported that on May 5, the EU Council approved the European Commission's proposal to allocate the package at the level of permanent representatives. To accelerate the provision of assistance, the European Parliament voted in favor of its urgent approval. The decision was made with 547 votes in favor, 93 against, and 47 abstentions.
