Yurik Mkrtchyan Wins Against Azerbaijani Murad Aliyev at U20 World Wrestling Championships
Yurik Mkrtchyan achieved an impressive victory over Azerbaijani wrestler Murad Rovsan Aliyev in the quarterfinals of the Greco-Roman wrestling event at the U20 World Championships ongoing in the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava.
In the 1/8 finals of the 67 kg weight category, Yurik Mkrtchyan won with a score of 13:6. In the qualification round, the Armenian wrestler had defeated Moldovan Maksim Damaschin with a score of 3:1.
In the quarterfinals, Yurik Mkrtchyan will face Polish wrestler Jozef Zlotary. Meanwhile, another Armenian representative in the 97 kg weight class, Erik Ter-Matevosyan, secured a technical victory due to his opponent's absence in the qualification round. In the 1/8 finals, Ter-Matevosyan will compete against Bulgarian Radostin Vasilev.
On the second day of the competition, Edgar Petrosyan (55 kg) and Gor Khachatryan (72 kg) faced defeats in their opening matches. Edgar Petrosyan, competing in the 55 kg weight class, lost 1:10 to Azerbaijani Emin Javadli in the 1/8 finals. Gor Khachatryan in the 72 kg weight class also suffered a defeat, losing 1:10 to Mingiyan Goriaev representing Russia.
This evening, Samuel Terteryan (77 kg) and Yurik Petrosyan (87 kg) will compete for the gold medal.
