105 Years Later, the Armenian People Must See Recognition: Paolo Fortunini
Paolo Fortunini, the author of the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Italian Chamber of Deputies, expresses his support for the Armenian people, noting that Italy and the "League" party stand alongside them to ensure that the immense tragedy of the Armenian people is neither forgotten nor denied. Fortunini made this statement in an interview with "Armenpress".
“On April 24, the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide will be commemorated. The entire Italy, along with the "League" party, stands with the Armenian people to ensure this tragedy is not subjected to forgetfulness or denial. The Italian Parliament has adopted the document we proposed, which finally recognizes this enormous tragedy, this horrific genocide,” said Fortunini.
He hopes Turkey will recognize the Armenian Genocide: “I am deeply convinced that we cannot erase history; that would be a crime and a denial of a historical fact. 105 years later, the Armenian people must see recognition; we owe it to the 1.5 million victims,” highlighted Paolo Fortunini.
The Italian Chamber of Deputies adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide on November 16, 2000. On April 10, 2019, the Chamber initiated a motion calling for the Italian government to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Several provincial and municipal councils in Italy have also recognized the Armenian Genocide.
