Trump Announces 60-Day Immigration Ban for the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a ban on immigration to the United States will be in effect for 60 days. The decision primarily concerns foreign nationals who intend to acquire permanent residency in the U.S. through the green card program.
“It would not be right and it would not be fair for migrant workers to fill jobs in the U.S. that should be going to American citizens who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus outbreak,” Trump stated.
According to sources, the ban will not apply to tourists or students. Depending on the situation, the set time frame for the ban may be extended.
Voice of America’s Russian service reports that the aim of the decision is to protect the U.S. labor market from the influx of foreign workers.
