In Russia, Quarantine Violators Could Face Up to 7 Years in Prison

The State Duma deputies have approved a bill imposing penalties on those who violate quarantine or other sanitary and hygienic regulations that lead to the infection of others or result in death. If a violation results in the death of two or more people, the law stipulates a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.

According to INTERFAX, if the violation leads to the death of an individual due to negligence or poses a risk of mass infection, fines between 1 million to 2 million rubles or imprisonment for up to five years are prescribed.

For mere violations, the bill sets forth a fine ranging from 500,000 to 700,000 rubles, a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years, or imprisonment for up to two years.
