27 Injured in Clashes Between Police and Protesters in Central Beirut

Anti-government protests continue in Lebanon. Today, in the center of the capital Beirut, Lebanese security forces dispersed a crowd of protesters who attempted to breach the police barricade and reach the parliamentary building.

According to a representative of the Lebanese Red Cross, at least 27 people were injured in the clashes, as reported by TASS. Earlier, military units had completely surrounded the central part of the city, where a session of the House of Representatives took place, during which the draft state budget for the 2020 fiscal year was approved.

Nonetheless, activist groups attempted to storm the parliament building from the coastal area of Beirut and from Marshal Foch Park. As a result of the clashes, the injured were transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, lawmakers have confirmed the state budget for 2020.
