Protesters Storm Presidential Administration Building in Abkhazia
In Sukhum, participants of a protest have stormed the building of the Presidential Administration of Abkhazia. The assault began at 1:00 PM local time from a square in front of the administration's building. The doors were smashed, taken off their hinges, and removed from the premises.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court held a session regarding the appeal filed by opposition candidate Alkhas Kvitsinia from the 'Amtskhara' party against the decision of the lower court. He is contesting the validity of the election results for the head of state.
The second round of the presidential elections in Abkhazia took place on September 8, with Raul Khajimba declared the winner according to CEC calculations, receiving 47.39% of the votes. Official data shows that 46.17% of voters supported Alkhas Kvitsinia.
The leader of the 'Amtskhara' party refused to recognize the election results and filed a lawsuit against the Central Electoral Commission in the Supreme Court on September 11. However, on September 20, the claim was rejected. Following that, Kvitsinia filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court against the decision.
