Minister is Using the Back Entrance Since Yesterday, Not Suitable for the Minister of Education: Protest Participant
A group of protesters from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s EU "Alarm" initiative, along with several students, have camped out in front of the Ministry of Education and Science in opposition to the decision to remove the subjects of Armenian language, literature, and history from university curriculum requirements. This morning, they resumed their protests.
"There has been no response from the ministry, we have not met with anyone. The sit-in continues as planned. Throughout the day, we will have informational marches to raise awareness about our movement," said Argishti Gevorgyan, a member of the protest who joined the initiative.
When asked if Minister Arayik Harutyunyan is currently at the ministry, Gevorgyan replied, "Since yesterday, he has been using the back entrance. It’s his issue; he can come and go as he pleases, but I don’t think this suits the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. We have seen many ministers who were not prepared to resign but did so under public pressure, so let the minister not elevate himself above his position."
It is worth noting that for the past two days, students from Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Armenian Philology have been staging a strike in reaction to the decision to make the Armenian language, Armenian history, and Armenian literature non-mandatory subjects in university programs. Students from other universities have also joined them.
