Decision to Detain Arsen Babayan Challenged
The decision to detain former Deputy Head of the National Assembly staff, Arsen Babayan, has been challenged by the defense team. This was reported by Babayan's lawyer, Yervand Varosyan, in response to a question from 'Haykakan Zhamanak'.
On October 24, the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court, presided over by Judge Karen Farhkoyan, decided to detain Arsen Babayan. The defense characterized the decision as illegal, linking it to ongoing processes surrounding the Constitutional Court.
The court also found that the investigator's decision to arrest Arsen Babayan was not lawful. It is worth noting that Babayan is accused of committing official forgery and assisting in the usurpation of power. According to a statement issued by the Special Investigative Service, Babayan, while acting as the Deputy Head of the National Assembly staff in 2018, helped a group of officials seize the powers of the Constitutional Court. Babayan does not plead guilty to the charges brought against him.
