Whistleblower to Answer Questions About Trump and Zelensky's Call
The individual who reported the phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, which prompted the initiation of impeachment proceedings, has agreed to respond to questions from Republican congressmen in writing. This was announced by his attorney, Mark Zaid.
As reported by the Associated Press, this unexpected proposal was made to the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes. It will allow Republicans to directly ask the whistleblower questions.
The attorney tweeted that the whistleblower will answer questions from Republican Party members “in writing, under oath and subject to penalties for false testimony.” However, he noted that no answers would follow for questions that could reveal the whistleblower's identity, which Trump and the Republicans are seeking to uncover, as reported by Interfax.
