Turkey Threatens Kurds with New Military Operation

Turkey is set to resume military operations in Syria if Kurdish militants do not withdraw from the designated 30 km deep security zone. This statement was made by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, according to Ermenihaber.

Although the Kurdish side, as well as Russia, announced that Kurdish forces would withdraw, the Turkish side claims that not all Kurdish militants have left the area yet.

“The United States has assumed responsibility that the Kurdish forces in Syria will withdraw from that area within 120 hours. First, a pause was declared in military operations, and then they were halted. If anyone does not leave, Turkey has the right to strike. We see that they are not all leaving. Well, we will clean them out. Within the agreed 150 hours with Russia, if the Kurdish forces in Syria do not move 30 km away from Kobani, then Turkey will clean those areas of terrorists. Just because we have declared a halt to military operations does not mean that we will do nothing,” Çavuşoğlu stated.

It is noteworthy that the mentioned 150-hour deadline expires today, October 29.

Let us recall that a meeting took place in Sochi between the Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which lasted more than 6 hours. Following that, Turkey halted its military operations. A 10-point memorandum of understanding was signed between Russia and Turkey regarding the situation in Syria.
