Citizen Arrested for Disrespectful Conduct Toward Police Officers

As a result of necessary investigative and procedural actions conducted by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia in the administrative districts of Ajapnyak and Davtashen, several circumstances surrounding an incident of apparent hooliganism committed by a 45-year-old man have been clarified. This information was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee.

The investigation revealed that on June 17, 2019, a man born in 1973, who was transferred to the "Armenia" Hospital, openly displayed disrespectful behavior toward the medical staff, uttering sexual insults and grossly violating public order, which escalated into a dispute with the ambulance driver.

On the same day, the 45-year-old man was taken to the police department, where he continued to show blatant disrespect toward the police officers, directing sexual insults at them as well.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Mashtots Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia under the second point of part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code, which has been forwarded to the Investigative Division of the Administrative Districts of Ajapnyak and Davtashen for further investigation.

Furthermore, on October 21, 2019, the 45-year-old man, while at a vegetable shop on Shinararner Street in Yerevan, noticed a police officer, recalled the previous incident, and, ignoring those present, directed sexual insults at him.

A criminal case has also been initiated regarding this incident. A decision has been made to combine these criminal cases and continue the investigation in a single proceeding.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, charges have been brought against the 45-year-old man under part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code for two episodes. He has been selected as a measure of restraint to be detained. The investigation is ongoing.
