Strike at South Caucasian Railway: Reasons
The South Caucasian Railway has declared a strike. In a conversation with Aurora News, the press secretary of South Caucasian Railway, Ruben Grdzelian, confirmed the news.
“On October 22 and 23, the employees of the locomotive depot in Gyumri of South Caucasian Railway did not come to work, demanding a salary increase. The actions of locomotive drivers and their assistants are considered a violation of labor legislation and are characterized as being absent from work for an entire workday (shift) without a valid reason. Over the past 8 months, the average salary of electric train drivers has been 364,000 AMD,” he stated.
It should be noted that yesterday, users on social media reported that the South Caucasian Railway had announced a strike, which resulted in the cancellation of the Yerevan-Tbilisi train departure, with passengers learning about it just 20 minutes before departure at the station. Travelers also expressed dissatisfaction that those without accommodations were not provided with any compensation besides a refund of the ticket price.
