I Am in the Spotlight of Azerbaijani Media: We Are Waiting for FIDE's Response – Mkhihtar Hayrapetyan

The chairman of the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports, Mkhihtar Hayrapetyan, addressed the situation surrounding Armenian chess player Maria Gevorgyan.

“I have been in the spotlight of certain Azerbaijani websites since yesterday. By the way, the last time my neighbors honored me with such 'recognition' was months ago when I announced that prior to the final match, several unacceptable conditions were imposed by Azerbaijan on Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

According to news reports circulating in Azerbaijani media, they claim to have no connection to the current situation, and the Turkish side also insists that our chess player has not received an official invitation from them. Nevertheless, we are now waiting for FIDE's response. We hope that as a result of the International Chess Federation’s thorough investigation, it will be revealed who is actually responsible for our chess player’s inability to participate in the international tournament.
