Germany's Chancellor Confirms Departure from Politics
Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel has confirmed that she does not intend to engage in active political activities after the next Bundestag elections, which are scheduled for 2021. She made this statement during a meeting with readers of the Ostsee-Zeitung newspaper in the northern German city of Stralsund.
“Of course, I will remain a political person, but I will not engage in active politics,” she stated.
Merkel noted that she does not plan to do so at the EU level either, adding that all positions in the EU have already been distributed. Previously, Merkel, who has led the German government since 2005, announced that she would not seek the position of Chancellor or the presidency of the Christian Democratic Union in 2021.
