Polluting Construction Vehicles to Be Fined; Supervision Will Be Strengthened
Many construction trucks transporting materials are traveling in unrestricted areas of the city and polluting the streets by not adhering to the regulations for material transportation. According to the Yerevan City Hall, Mayor Haik Marutyan addressed this issue during a working consultation. Steps have been instructed to be taken in cooperation with the Traffic Police to identify drivers and hold them administratively accountable in accordance with the law. In addition, additional supervision will be established.
“If the drivers remain unpunished, the same incident could occur again in the near future. Aside from the established fines, we must also consider the issue of cleaning the polluted streets during the process. We also have a list of streets defined by a government decision, particularly in the center, where the entrance of trucks without appropriate permits is prohibited. We need to establish supervision and practically implement this decision,” stated the mayor.
The Yerevan community will continue the process of acquiring new garbage bins using its own resources. In response to a question from the mayor during the meeting about whether the company “Sanitek” is prepared to cooperate with the city hall to address waste collection issues and acquire new vehicles and garbage bins, the company’s representative stated that such a matter is not currently under discussion at “Sanitek.”
It was reported that this week, the city hall will begin monitoring the technical condition and compliance of equipment at “Sanitek” with contractual obligations. Further information will be provided regarding the results.
Last week, inspections continued to prevent illegal outdoor trade. After explanatory activities, 20 citizens were fined for not halting their operations.
