North-South Road Blockade Attempt Ends with Police Intervention

The employees of the contractor company responsible for the construction of the North-South highway were preparing to block the Ashtarak-Ujan road again today. However, they were invited to the police department, which resulted in the cancellation of the protest.

One of the organizers, Gurgen Hovhannisyan, told a MAMUL.am correspondent that they were informed by the police that “if they block the road, there will be a firm response.”

It is worth noting that the companies responsible for the construction of this section of the road have been demanding payment for work done since August 2018, for which they have not been paid.

Earlier, the builders announced that they had reached an agreement with the police chief of Ashtarak: “A meeting will be organized with members of the government on August 8. If the issue is not resolved by the 8th, we will block the road,” they stated.
