Zelensky to Seize Assets of Illegally Enriched Officials

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada on the civil confiscation of corrupt assets of individuals and criminal liability for illegal enrichment.

According to information from the official website of the President of Ukraine, the draft proposes a new mechanism for the confiscation of officials' illegal assets without a criminal conviction, through civil proceedings, and restores penalties for officials who have illegally enriched themselves.

Thus, imprisonment is not stipulated; however, any official found with more than 900,000 Ukrainian hryvnias in unjustified assets will not be able to evade responsibility, even if they are no longer in office but previously enriched themselves unlawfully.

All of these amounts will be confiscated and legally redirected to the state budget of Ukraine.
