Operative Officer Arrested During Bribery Taking: NSS
On April 25, 2019, the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia received a report from the investigative division of the Kotayk regional police, regarding the systematic extortion of money from a citizen of Armenia as a bribe since 2017. This information was reported by the NSS press center.
According to preliminary data obtained from operational-investigative measures, G.G., an operative officer of the criminal investigation department of the Kotayk regional police, threatened a resident of Kotayk, knowing that the individual had previously used drugs. He indicated that he would take measures within his official authority to create grounds for the citizen's criminal liability, demanding and extorting a total amount of 4,265,800 AMD equivalent from June 2017 to April 26, 2019.
On April 26, the next bribe amounting to 200,000 AMD was transferred under the operational control of NSS and police employees, immediately after which the operative officer was detained. He has been charged under the second part of the fourth clause of Article 311 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Pre-trial detention has been selected as a measure of restraint.
