Everyone Is Lying: Khachatur Sukiasyan Responds to Media Reports About Him
Businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan has responded to media reports regarding himself on his Facebook page.
He specifically wrote: “Recently, several media outlets have been consistently publishing news related to my name, all of which are lies. Our team has refuted all these false reports by presenting facts. Today, another piece of news has been published, once again touching upon my name.
The media outlet stated that the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic Affairs is attempting to amend the RA Law on ‘Geographical Indications’, using my name as leverage. I want to emphasize that I was one of the initiators of the current law. I would oppose the proposed changes, as the existing law allows for the protection of the recognition of products according to Armenian geographical names and the development of branding institutions. For those unfamiliar with the law, let me provide a simple example to clarify my point.
For instance, a winery operating in the Tavush region cannot produce wine under the name ‘Areni’, while a brandy factory in Proshyan cannot produce wine under the ‘Ijavan’ brand. This law protects both consumer and producer rights. As an advocate for freedom of speech, I once again feel pain that certain mass media outlets are discrediting the role of the press and freedom of speech in Armenia by spreading such misinformation.”
