The Armenian government is fully committed to its obligations to protect and promote human rights. The non-violent democratic revolution that took place in Armenia serves as a testament that human rights, as a rule, function effectively when they become part of societal consensus and are perceived as universal social and moral values.

This was stated in the official message from the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to international organizations.

It was noted that in this context, our international partners should demonstrate greater respect and sensitivity towards Armenian society and refrain from undue steering of public discussions, even if they disagree with their tone.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reminds that the principle of public morality is part of international obligations concerning human rights, and these cannot be ignored. In turn, the authorities of Armenia will not tolerate any illegal actions and will continue to protect the constitutional rights of all citizens.

Earlier, we reported that the European Union delegation in Armenia and the embassies of EU member states accredited in Armenia issued a statement regarding transgender remarks during parliamentary hearings and the developments surrounding them.

The statement particularly noted that hate speech, including death threats directed at Lilit Martirosyan, her associates, and the entire LGBTQI community, represents the latest manifestation of these disturbing trends and constitutes discrimination, which is prohibited by the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, to which Armenia is a party, and which is also reflected in the Constitution of Armenia.
