The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports: 'Yesterday marked one year since the appointment of Armen Sarkissian as the President of Armenia. On April 9, 2018, the powers of the Republic's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, ended, and on that day, Armen Sarkissian took the oath of office as the President of Armenia (he was elected by the National Assembly on March 2).

The President of Armenia, although having strictly limited, or rather symbolic powers according to the Constitution, is nevertheless considered the head of state. Despite this fact, no one officially acknowledged or evaluated his year in office. Even President Armen Sarkissian himself did not mention this; he neither sent out a message nor made a statement. Moreover, Armen Sarkissian is currently out of the country on a working visit to Portugal.

This development is certainly noteworthy. Armen Sarkissian, despite his limited powers, enjoys symbolic and protocol events (in a British ceremonial style). It was expected that he would commemorate some aspect of his first year in office, but he chose silence instead. One wonders why.'
