Defense Ministry and Army Did Not Report Four Soldiers Who Died in 2019
Tert.am reports that, according to its sources, several soldiers have died in the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Defense Army of Artsakh over the past two months, none of which have been reported by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) or the General Staff.
To clarify the situation, Tert.am sent a written inquiry to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia, asking how many fatalities occurred in the Armed Forces and the Defense Army between January 1 and February 20, 2019.
The Prosecutor General's office stated that three deaths related to military service were recorded during this period, while four deaths occurred due to unrelated circumstances.
In response to Tert.am's inquiry, the Prosecutor General's office provided the following information:
“From January 1 to February 21, 2019, three incidents of soldier deaths related to military service were recorded in the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Defense Army of Artsakh.”
- In connection with the death of Ed. Grigoryan on January 1, 2019, while on combat duty, a criminal case has been initiated on the basis of Article 110, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
- In connection with the death of M. Grigoryan on February 11, 2019, due to a shot fired by a conscript during combat duty, a criminal case has been initiated on the basis of Article 104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
- In connection with the death of F. Tamazyan on February 12, 2019, due to health issues, a criminal case has been initiated on the basis of Article 376, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
It was also noted that during the specified period, four deaths were recorded among soldiers of the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Defense Army of Artsakh that were unrelated to military service, two of which were due to illness and two due to traffic accidents.
According to sources, the Ministry of Defense and the Defense Army of Artsakh have not disclosed the information regarding these four incidents, and no official statement or record has been made.
