Artak Zeynalyan on the inmate who committed suicide yesterday

“The person who committed suicide was in quarantine, in a separate cell with another individual accused of the same crime. Psychologists were working with him until they found the other one already lifeless. Such incidents happen; it occurred last year as well. Of course, it's tragic,” said the Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan during a conversation with reporters today.

Mr. Zeynalyan provided further details: “For those who don't know, when an inmate is transferred to the penitentiary, they must be placed in quarantine. Psychologists were working with them, and there were two people in the cell; both had been accused of similar crimes. They were working with one of them, and by the time they returned, the other was already lifeless. He was accused of raping a minor.”

The minister added that the deceased inmate had already served time twice, and this was his third arrest.

It should be recalled that yesterday, the body of 54-year-old M. Petrosyan, who was accused of raping a person under fourteen, was found hanging from the window bars in cell 10 of the first building of the “Nubarashen” penitentiary.
