Attempts to Release Individuals Not Covered by Amnesty Law Exposed
Following the declaration of a large amnesty in Armenia, on November 23, the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia signed an order for the legal oversight and control of the application process of the law on amnesty.
Recent reports from "Zhoghavor" newspaper indicate that the Chief Prosecutor's order has its background. Law enforcement agencies have uncovered attempts to release specific individuals under the guise of amnesty, despite the fact that those individuals were not covered by the law.
Moreover, the process reached the upper echelons of authority, prompting a halt to these actions. Therefore, to prevent such occurrences in the future, Chief Prosecutor Artur Davtyan decided to issue this order. The Chief Prosecutor's Office stated for comments: "The requirements of the amnesty law are applied through investigations, preliminary investigations, or by relevant other bodies and courts issuing appropriate procedural acts, the legality of which is verified by the Prosecutor's Office. The Chief Prosecutor's order aims to enhance the systematic approach and effectiveness of this process."
