Montenegro Accuses Serbia of Double Standards on Russia and Ukraine

Montenegro's Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has accused Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić of applying double standards, pointing to public statements from Belgrade regarding Russia and reports of Serbian weapons and ammunition reaching Ukraine.

“How is it possible that Serbia, according to available data, is one of the significant sources of weapons and ammunition for Ukraine, while sending one message to Moscow and another to Europe?” Spajić stated.

He also referred to Vučić as a “person engaged in PR for Russia.”

The Prime Minister of Montenegro emphasized that Podgorica does not want conflict with Serbia and is in favor of friendly relations, but also seeks a clear European policy.

Spajić's statement followed Vučić's criticism of Montenegro's authorities. The Serbian President accused them of seeking to deteriorate relations between the two countries and “re-educate” Serbians.

He also criticized Podgorica for consistently aligning with EU sanctions against Russia.

Serbia officially claims that it does not directly supply weapons to the warring parties. However, Vučić admitted in 2024 that approximately €800 million worth of Serbian-made ammunition could have reached Ukraine through third countries.
