Russia Launches Massive Missile Strike on Kyiv, Casualties Reported
On the night of August 1, Russian forces launched a massive ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. The attack resulted in at least seven fatalities and left 23 others injured, including children.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, ballistic missiles were fired at the capital around 1:32 AM. Monitoring channels also reported the use of several 'Zircon' hypersonic missiles. Offensive drones flew towards the city and surrounding areas both before and after the main assault.
Explosions were heard in several neighborhoods of Kyiv, with the most severe damage occurring in the Solomianskyi and Darnytskyi districts. In Solomianskyi, the first and second floors of a five-story residential building partially collapsed, igniting a fire. Thirty-five people were evacuated from the building. Vehicles in a parking lot caught fire as well. In the same area, two people were killed and eight injured (including two children).
In the Darnytskyi district, seven people died and 14 were injured (including two children). Administrative and storage buildings were damaged, and fires broke out. Non-residential buildings and a film studio were set ablaze in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and ambulances were also damaged.
Missile fragments fell in Holosiivskyi and other neighborhoods, causing fires and building damages. Power outages were reported in some areas of Kyiv.
On the morning of August 1, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service confirmed the death of nine individuals and 23 injuries. Rescue operations continued.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko repeatedly urged residents to remain in shelters during the attack. Ukrainian authorities highlight that ballistic missiles pose a specific danger due to their extremely short flight duration and the difficulty of interception.
This is not the first massive strike directed at Kyiv in recent days; a previous large attack occurred on the night of July 30.
