We Are Not Ukraine's ATM: Polish MP's Message to the EU
Polish Member of the European Parliament, Eva Zajaczkowska-Gernik, has criticized European countries for capitulating to Ukraine at their own expense on the social media platform X.
“The European Commission is already discussing ways to expedite Ukraine's accession to the EU. Does this mean that the issues of corruption, the rule of law, and the overall situation in the country have suddenly ceased to worry Eurocrats? We are forced not only to continue acting as Ukraine's ATM but also to create significant economic and social threats for ourselves,” she noted.
The politician also urged the Polish authorities to “stop pretending to be servants of the Ukrainian nation” and start taking care of their own citizens.
On January 16, the Financial Times reported that the European Commission believes that Volodymyr Zelensky may be willing to concede territorial compromises as part of the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict if he can present Ukraine's EU membership as a negotiating victory for Kyiv. The newspaper stated that the EU wishes to alter the accession process in favor of Ukraine.
