EU to Reduce Tariffs on Several Ukrainian Agricultural Products
The European Council has decided to reduce or completely eliminate tariffs on several Ukrainian agricultural products. Among these products are dairy, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as meat and meat products. This is stated in the decision of the EU Council.
“Today’s decision reaffirms the EU’s continuous and comprehensive support for Ukraine since the start of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified military aggression. We are helping Ukraine militarily and financially, but we must also support it through trade liberalization,” said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
The entry of Ukrainian products into the EU market will depend on gradual alignment with EU production standards regarding animal welfare, pesticide use, and veterinary medicine usage.
The document also outlines a safeguard mechanism that can be activated by either party in case of market disruptions. For the most sensitive products, such as sugar, poultry, eggs, wheat, corn, and honey, liberalization remains limited and will be implemented gradually. Complete tariff elimination is likely first for less sensitive categories, including milk and dairy products.
