Germany Calls for Review of LNG Imports from the US
The leader of Germany's Greens party, Katrin Göring-Eckardt, has urged the EU to reconsider its decision to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States in response to American threats regarding the situation in Greenland.
"The European Union now needs a clear position. Trump's behavior is unacceptable. In my opinion, it should be clarified: if the US raises tariffs against the EU, the EU is prepared to respond in kind. It is important to keep an open hand, to express a willingness to engage in dialogue, and to signal that we do not want to escalate a tariff war, while also clarifying that we are ready to take countermeasures. This is, in my opinion, the only thing that Trump truly understands," Göring-Eckardt stated on the German ZDF television channel.
She reminded that the European Union has committed to spending about 750 billion euros on US fracked gas. "Such dependence is dangerous from both an economic policy and an energy perspective, and in my opinion, this decision should be carefully reviewed," she explained.
