Transfer of Bishop Mikayel to Medical Center Postponed: Details
The health condition of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, the leader of the Shirak Diocese, has worsened recently. He was sentenced to two years in prison, and his defenders have warned that surgical intervention is necessary.
It was expected that today the Bishop would be transferred from the penitentiary to a medical center for examinations and then surgery.
In an interview with Aysor.am, Mikayel's defender, Marine Fardanyan, stated that the transfer will not take place today. “There is a court session at the Court of Appeals today, where the appeal presented by the defense against the verdict will be discussed on grounds for acquittal. The prosecution's appeal will also be reviewed, as they have requested an increase in the severity of the sentence imposed on the Bishop, seeking a harsher punishment,” she said, adding that the Bishop will be transferred to the medical center on December 16.
