EU Prepares to Allocate 12 Million Euros to Armenia
The European Union is set to support Armenia in countering potential hybrid threats ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for the summer of 2026, as well as in strengthening cybersecurity.
This information was shared by the EU's High Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, during a meeting in Brussels with a group of Armenian journalists. She pointed to Moldova’s experience, where, according to the EU official, Russia attempted to interfere with parliamentary elections through the active dissemination of misinformation and cyberattacks.
Kos stated that the EU is prepared to allocate 12 million euros to assist Armenia in effectively combating similar hybrid attacks that could arise before the elections. She elaborated that this support would enable Armenia’s relevant institutions to enhance their capabilities to predict and respond to hybrid threats.
The High Commissioner highlighted that the 12 million euros will not be exclusively for the Armenian government, but will also be accessible to civil society and media, which play a crucial role in effectively countering hybrid threats.
Kos emphasized the importance of active engagement from the Armenian government in combating hybrid threats, noting that achieving results is not possible without it. In this context, she underscored the significance of having appropriate institutions in place that are prepared to deliver a proper response to hybrid threats.
