Zelensky Appoints Rustem Umierov as Head of Delegation in Place of Yermak
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made changes to the decree regarding the composition of the delegation for negotiations over the "peace plan." According to European Pravda, the decree published on the president's website replaces Andriy Yermak with Rustem Umierov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, as head of the delegation.
On November 22, Zelensky signed a decree establishing a delegation to participate in negotiations for a "fair and sustainable peace" with representatives from the U.S., Ukraine's other international partners, and Russia. Initially, the delegation was headed by presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak.
The updated decree includes Vadym Skibitskyi, the deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, in the delegation's composition. The president's office reported that on November 29, Umierov presented a report to the president regarding preparations for meetings with the American side. According to the office, the Ukrainian delegation is already heading to the United States.
Bloomberg has reported that the delegation will be in Florida, where it will meet with U.S. Presidential Envoy Seth Wickersham and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump. According to Axios, Yermak had intended to travel to the U.S. for negotiations concerning the "peace agreement" but resigned from his position as chief of staff the day before.
On Friday, Zelensky dismissed Andriy Yermak following searches conducted by anti-corruption agencies at his home.
