EU Commissioner: With This Policy, You Won't Become an EU Member Even by 2030 - To Georgia
The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, stated in an interview with the Georgian newspaper 'Pirveli' that Georgia's membership in the EU by 2030 is unrealistic if the government continues its current political course.
“We know that the Georgian authorities insist that the country will become an EU member by 2030, but this will be impossible. The policy of the 'Georgian Dream' will not work,” Kos noted.
She also revealed that the EU is developing a new mechanism to suspend the visa-free regime, which will be adopted in November. After that, according to her, Brussels will discuss different scenarios of cooperation with Georgia, depending on the government's response.
“'Georgian Dream' needs to pay closer attention to what we are doing in Europe and listen to our clear signals,” Kos emphasized.
This statement from the EU indicates a noticeable stagnation in Georgia's European integration process due to domestic developments and growing dissatisfaction from Western partners.
