White House Shows Interest in Legislation to Tighten Sanctions Against Russia
The White House administration has increased its attention towards a bill under discussion in the U.S. Senate that aims to tighten sanctions against Russia, according to Associated Press.
According to the agency, White House officials have 'heightened interest in the legislation' in recent weeks.
The publication reports that administration officials are carefully reviewing the bill, suggesting clarifications and requesting technical amendments. Congress sees this as a 'sign of Trump’s more serious approach to the legislation.'
One of the administration officials emphasized that the bill should 'advance the President’s foreign policy objectives' and provide him with 'maximum discretion' in decision-making.
Today, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham stated that he believes Congress should adopt a new package of sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry had talked about working with Serbia to overcome U.S. sanctions.
